FLUGTAG COMES TO PORTLAND

It’s finally here, Red Bull’s Flugtag 2008!  On August 2, 2008, awesome human-powered hand-made flying machines will launch from 30 feet above the Willamette River at Tom McCall Waterfront Park.  Flugtag means “flying day” in German, but sadly, most machines will plummet to the water with a splash and the roar of the crowd.  Do not fear brave Flugtag flyers, creations are judged on creativity and showmanship as well as length of flight.

More than 50,000 spectators flooded Tom McCall Waterfront Park in 2004 for Red Bull’s Flugtag, and Portland expects this year’s Flugtag to be even bigger.  Gates open at 11 am, and the first flight leaves the platform at 1 pm.  The best thing about Flugtag, next to seeing a flying bowl of salsa dump into the Willamette River, is that it’s FREE!  Come early to get a good spot!

For more information, or to check out the teams that will be flying-or falling at Portland 2008 Red Bull Flugtag Event
